Jon Peddie from Jon Peddie Research (JPR) thinks our current way of keeping up with technology — cyclical hardware updates to make sure we can run the latest software releases — is doomed. He predicts, in the future, we would draw as much — or as little — computing power as we need from the cloud. Jon Peddie is scheduled to give a presentation about the topic at The Congress on the Future of Engineering Software 2010 (COFES, Scottsdale, Arizona, April 15-18). He invites you to bring your own theories in favor — or against — cloud computing.

To project stereoscopic 3-D images, a TV or monitor needs to have a refresh rate of at least 120 Hz, notes Jon Peddie president of Jon Peddie Research. While new televisions typically can do that, few older ones can, he said. So most consumers will need to buy a new TV or computer monitor to watch 3-D programming, and many may be reluctant to go through the upgrade cycle in the near future after recently replacing their old analog TVs with digital ones. "That'll be a barrier," Peddie acknowledges.

Jon Peddie argues that the assumptions may actually be backwards. "If Atom can be sold for, say $20, and Intel can make a profit, and if it can sell the chipset for $5 and make a profit so the combination is $25, then selling the processor (Atom) alone for $45 is simply raising the price," said Peddie. So I look down and I see flames coming up to my chest, said Danny Williams. Williams said the burn hole from the pocket of his pants marks the spot of his 15 seconds of flame. He said he had an iPod Nano and an glossy piece of paper in his pocket. He believes the paper shielded him from being burned. Samsung and Danish design firm Bang & Olufsen revealed their latest collaboration on Tuesday, the Serenata phone. Featuring B&O’s trademark over-the-top design, 4GB of storage and a 2.26-inch LCD screen, the Sereneta might not quite be ready to oust Apple in the technical arena, but as a status symbol, it certainly stands a chance. The Seranata is a sleek looking phone, with a distinctive flipped look about it. The control wheel and buttons are on top of the phone while the 2.26-LCD is on the bottom.…
