Alibaba’s T-Head PPU

In the race with homegrown 7nm

In response to export controls, Alibaba has launched its T-Head PPU AI accelerator for high-volume inference, as a reaction to export restrictions and Nvidia’s reduced supply to China. The company has also defined a long-term strategy around RISC-V to ensure supply. China Unicom will implement the T-Head PPU at the Sanjiangyuan data center in Xining. The card aims for parity with Nvidia’s H20. Specs include 96GB HBM2e, 700 GB/s interconnect, and 400 W TDP, built on a domestic 7nm process.
