Nvidia makes a dramatic, gigantic acquisition-licensing deal with Groq

Groq remains an independent company after signing a non-exclusive licensing agreement with Nvidia valued at about $20 billion. The deal licenses Groq’s LPU inference technology and transfers key executives and engineers, including founder Jonathan Ross, to Nvidia, without an equity acquisition. Simon Edwards now leads Groq as CEO. GroqCloud continues operating, while Nvidia integrates the licensed technology into its AI platforms. The structure avoids antitrust scrutiny, delivers major payouts to investors and employees, and strengthens Nvidia’s position in low-latency AI inference.
