AMD’s CPUs defied gravity in Q4’22

While all others declined, AMD saw a gain.

The news was not great for CPU vendors, with client shipments dropping Q-Q and Y-Y. And while almost all segments experienced a decline, AMD faired far better than Intel. In the area of client CPUs without iGPUs, AMD’s numbers actually increased significantly, while Intel’s dropped. The average quarter-to-quarter change in PC shipments reported by Canalys, Gartner, and IDC from Q3’22 to Q4’22 was -6.5%. Not that shocking, but compared to a year ago when Covid was still influencing PC sales, it dropped -28%.
