EA goes private with $55 billion leveraged buyout; what does this tell us about the game industry?

EA is going to private equity. That fact alone suggests the game industry is going through major changes. One of the reasons a publicly held company like EA goes private is withdraw and make the kinds of big changes that will improve profitability even at the expense of its perception in the market. EA is an industry leader, so the sudden shift in its fortunes suggests more changes could be coming in the broader game industry. At least it didn’t go cheap.
