GlobalFoundries adds ARC to MIPS and tightens its grip on the RISC-V stack

GlobalFoundries has completed its acquisition of Synopsys’ ARC Processor IP Solutions business, folding ARC into MIPS and expanding its push into what it calls physical AI. The deal adds processor IP, engineering talent, software tools, and—importantly—ASIP Designer and ASIP Programmer, giving GF a broader software-to-silicon story for automotive, industrial, robotics, and edge AI systems. The result is not simply another IP portfolio transfer; it is GF moving further up the value chain from manufacturing partner to platform owner.
