Musk pivots to Samsung and places his bets on the AI6

Musk shuts down Dojo and opts for partnership with Samsung.

As of August 8, 2025, Tesla is disbanding its Dojo supercomputer team, signaling a strategic shift toward external partners for AI hardware. As part of this change, Samsung secured a $16.5 billion contract to manufacture Tesla’s next-generation AI5 and AI6 processors at its plant in Taylor, Texas. The AI6 chip is designed to power Tesla’s self-driving vehicles, humanoid robots (known as Optimus), and Tesla’s AI training. The AI5 is being used to power Tesla’s FSD (full self-driving) system.
