Neurophos is building optical AI accelerator chips around a large metamaterial-based optical tensor core, targeting the matrix-multiplication-heavy workloads that dominate AI inference. CEO Patrick Bowen says the technology is designed to act like a drop-in GPU replacement while delivering much higher performance per watt, especially for prefill workloads in data centers. The company has demonstrated key optical tensor-core silicon and is aiming for data center deployment around 2028. Neurophos CEO and founder Patrick Bowen .(Source: Silicon Catalyst) Neurophos is trying to build a much faster, more power-efficient AI chip by doing the heavy tensor math with light rather than only electronics.
