Positron, a Reno-based chip start-up, challenges Nvidia by offering energy-efficient, memory-optimized inference chips. Its Arizona-manufactured Atlas chips use less power than Nvidia H100s, delivering comparable performance and superior efficiency. Atlas, already shipping, supports large transformer models and integrates with existing software. Positron’s upcoming Titan platform (2026) will feature vast memory (up to 16 trillion parameters) and air cooling, addressing AI’s memory bottleneck.
