Most AI chip companies either sell products you can buy or license IP you can use. SemiFive does neither. The Seoul, South Korea-based company takes a customer’s AI architecture idea and delivers finished silicon—handling everything from RTL to packaged chip using Samsung’s most advanced process nodes. It’s a model that barely existed five years ago and now sits at the center of a growing wave of AI fabless start-ups that have great neural network ideas but no semiconductor manufacturing capability.
