Turning your expensive GPU into a UMA slug

DirectX 12 lets the CPU steal VRAM.

Microsoft’s DirectX team has just announced a new feature called GPU Upload Heaps that will give the CPU access to the GPU VRAM. This is a big change, as the GPU’s VRAM had always been off-limits to the CPU. It will take some time before this will be in games, but it is expected to increase performance in DX12 games and decrease system RAM usage. The feature is available in the Agility SDK.
