The Hyperscalers are committing to AI accelerators from AMD. OpenAI’s AMD deal targets 1 GW in for the second half of 2026, scaling to 6 GW. Oracle/AMD have announced a 50,000-GPU MI450 cluster for Q3, 2026. The MI300x is in current deployments at Azure and OCI, and OVHcloud is using the MI325X. Meta is building with MI300X, and TensorWave has 8,192 MI325X AIPs.
AMD is a big winner as the hyperscalers make significant plans to acquire numerous APIs, primarily in the form of NPU-equipped GPUs.
That doesn’t necessarily mean mass shipments to all datacenters immediately—ramp, testing, and scale will follow, with full deployment stretching through 2029.
On October 6, 2025, OpenAI and AMD signed a multi-year agreement to supply Instinct GPUs for its next-generation AI infrastructure. OpenAI plans to deploy the first 1 GW of Instinct processors in 2H 2026, scaling to 6 GW. The agreement also gives OpenAI an option to buy up to 10% of AMD shares at $0.01 per share. The company projects over $100 billion in related revenue over four years for its AIPs.
And on Oct 14, 2025 Oracle and AMD announced a 50,000-GPU MI450 supercluster, publicly available in Q3 2026.
There are already a lot of AMD AIPs at work.
In May 2024, Microsoft and AMD announced Azure ND MI300X v5 VMs powered by AMD Instinct MI300X, saying they were being used for Azure AI production workloads.
Oracle joined the parade with its first public installation of AMD Instinct in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), using the MI300X, generally available on September 26, 2024. And in October 2024, Microsoft made AMD MI300X v5 available for Azure.
French cloud provider OVH cloud began an early-access offering on servers with MI325X GPUs in September.
Meta deployed MI300X broadly for Llama 3/4 inference across Meta’s fleet.
TensorWave (AI cloud) deployed 8,192 MI325X GPUs (liquid-cooled) in North America in July 2025.
And Wall Street has noticed, AMD’s share price has been steadily increasing, which makes OpenAI’s $0.01 option worth more every day. Big number, big bet, big opportunities.
