Snap Inc. created Specs Inc. in January 2026 to focus on its XR efforts. On April 8, 2026, Specs Inc. and Qualcomm Technologies announced a multi-year strategic agreement to power future generations of Specs AR glasses with Snapdragon XR SoCs.

The partnership builds on more than five years of collaboration. Snapdragon platforms have already powered multiple generations of Snap’s Spectacles. This new agreement establishes a long-term roadmap to deliver on-device AI, advanced graphics, and multi-user digital experiences.

Specs are stand-alone see-through AR glasses designed for consumers. They integrate digital content directly into the physical world and run intelligent, context-aware features on-device for faster response times and better privacy. The next-generation Specs will be smaller and lighter than previous versions and will feature see-through AR optics powered by a Snapdragon XR SoC.

Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon stated that the next era of computing belongs to devices that understand what users see, hear, and say, then respond instantly. He said the collaboration will enable power-efficient AR devices that deliver natural, agentic experiences.

Snap CEO Evan Spiegel emphasized that the future of computing must feel more human and grounded in the real world. He noted that the Qualcomm partnership provides a strong foundation for Specs and supports developers building sophisticated AR experiences.

The agreement creates a scalable platform for developers and partners. It aims to support a predictable product cadence and increasingly advanced digital experiences on eyewear. Specs Inc. also offers Lens Studio, a full suite of tools for creating immersive AR content across Specs, Snapchat, and other platforms.

What do we think?

This partnership gives Specs Inc. a clear technical edge and reliable silicon supply for its consumer AR ambitions. Qualcomm gains another high-profile design win in the growing AR eyewear segment. The focus on on-device AI and privacy aligns well with current market demands. We see this as a solid, pragmatic move that improves Snap’s chances of delivering competitive AR glasses later this year.

This multi-year agreement marks an inflection point in AI-powered consumer AR. By committing Snapdragon XR platforms to future Specs, Qualcomm and Snap accelerate the shift toward lightweight, on-device agentic experiences that understand context and respond naturally. If successful, these glasses could move AR from niche applications into everyday consumer use, signaling that practical, privacy-focused spatial computing is finally approaching mainstream readiness.
