A day after announcing plans to ditch its tablet and smart-phone efforts, HP dropped the price of its webOS-powered TouchPad tablet device at the weekend to just US$99.99 and in turn claimed to have witnessed “overwhelming” demand. HP cut the price of its least-expensive TouchPad to just under US$100, from US$499.99.
Net earnings for the May-through-July period were $71.2 million, or 30 cents per share, up from $59.9 million, or 25 cents per share, in the second quarter of 2010.
