Nvidia RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell Workstation Edition

The most powerful desktop GPU Nvidia ever created.

Jon Peddie

The Nvidia RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell Edition, priced at $8,000, offers modest gaming gains over the RTX 5090 but excels in professional workloads. It features more CUDA, RT, and Tensor cores, 96GB GDDR7 memory, and strong AI training capacity. Overclocking boosts performance up to 15%. Fifth-gen Tensor and fourth-gen RT cores enhance AI and graphics. NVENC/NVDEC improve video work, and MIG enables up to four isolated GPU instances. PCIe Gen 5 and DisplayPort 2.1 enhance bandwidth, multitasking, and high-resolution display capabilities.

Nvidia’s RTX 5090 is a high-performing consumer GPU, surpassing its 40-series predecessor by approximately 30% without employing dynamic upscaling or frame generation. The RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell Edition, a professional iteration, utilizes a substantial portion of the GPU, incorporating additional CUDA cores, RT cores, Tensor cores, and triple the memory capacity. This configuration enhances its general performance, with a particular emphasis on its AI training capabilities.

Despite this emphasis, the RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell is quicker than the 5090 in gaming-type workloads, though not substantially so. VideoCardz offers test results comparing the GPUs, where the RTX Pro 6000 scored 28,009 points in 3DMark Time Spy Extreme. This is 8% above the RTX 5090’s 25,824. With a 350 MHz core overclock and a 2,000 MHz memory increase, the RTX Pro 6000 achieved 30,0019 points.

Fifth-generation Tensor cores yield up to three times the prior generation’s performance, adding FP4 precision plus DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation. They help accelerate local LLMs, prototype new AI models, and improve content creation and graphics. Fourth-generation RT cores give up to double the prior generation’s performance, accelerating rendering for M&E content, AECO design, and manufacturing prototypes. These facilitate photorealistic, physically accurate scenes and immersive 3D designs through neural graphics technologies like RTX Mega Geometry, allowing for significantly more ray-traced triangles.

Nvidia Blackwell is a strong professional RTX GPU with current SM and CUDA core technology. The SM has increased processing throughput, and new neural shaders embed neural networks within programmable shaders to support future AI-augmented graphics innovations. Enhanced GDDR7 memory increases bandwidth and capacity, allowing applications to operate faster and handle larger, complex datasets. With 96GB of GPU memory, users can undertake sizable 3D and AI projects, navigate large VR environments, and manage extensive multi-app workflows.

Ninth-generation Nvidia NVENC engines accelerate video encoding speed and improve quality for professional video applications. They introduce new support for 4:2:2 H.264 and HEVC encoding, plus enhance HEVC and AV1 encoding quality. Sixth-generation Nvidia NVDEC engines can double H.264 decoding throughput and support 4:2:2 H.264 and HEVC decode. Professionals gain from quality video playback, accelerated video data ingestion, and access to AI-powered video editing features.

Multi-Instance GPU (MIG) broadens the RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell’s performance and value, enabling creation of up to four fully-isolated instances. Each MIG instance features its own high-bandwidth memory, cache, and compute cores. It offers guaranteed quality of service (QoS), extending accelerated computing resource access to every user. Support for PCI Express Gen 5 delivers double the bandwidth of PCIe Gen 4. This improves data-transfer speeds from CPU memory, unlocking quicker performance for data-intensive tasks including AI, data science, and detailed 3D modeling work.

DisplayPort 2.1 allows professionals to achieve considerable visual clarity and performance, powering high-resolution displays such as 8K at 240 Hz and 16K at 60 Hz. Its increased bandwidth enables fluid multi-monitor setups, beneficial for multitasking and collaboration. Additionally, HDR and higher color depth support ensure good color accuracy for detailed work in video editing, 3D design, and live broadcasting.

The Nvidia RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell is available at an $8,000 list price, enabling professionals and enthusiasts to assess it. It exhibits significant power, as expected, though its performance edge over the base RTX 5090 is not extensive. By default, it is about 10% quicker in standard 3D rendering tests, and its considerable overclocking capacity can increase this lead to 15%.
