OpenTV buys Wink for $101 million

Two well-established interactive TV companies have become one. OpenTV announced the acquisition of Wink TV from Liberty Broadband Interactive telelvision for approximately $101 million ni cash. This, say the companies, is the same amount paid by Liberty to acquire Wink a short while ago.

Wink’s management will join that of OpenTV, which is headed by CEO James Akcerman. Tim Travaille executive vice preisdent of finance and business development for Wink has been appointed interim chief operating office of OpenTV. Travaille joined Wink in 1997 after serving as vice president for AT&T Wireless. Maggie Wildetrotter, president and CEO of Wink is stepping aside and will continue to work with the merged company as a consultant.
